Kras is a member of the RAS protein family, which are a class of small GTPases involved in cell signaling. Plays a role in promoting oncogenic events by inducing transcriptional silencing of tumor suppressor genes (TSGs) in colorectal cancer (CRC) cells in a ZNF304-dependent manner. As an oncogene mutated in several different cancers, the G12C substitution mutation favors the activated, GTP-bound state of the protein.
